Hi, just thought i would introduce myself. i have recently purchased a 1962 prototype folding van and have joined the forum for some banter with like minded individuals and also hopefully, for some advice.
Could someone point me in the direction of an insurance company that would offer me cover? All the ones i have spoken to so far have told me that they wont insure a van over 25 years old. I really would like to have some sort of cover on it as it is the only van of its type ever made so if anything ever did happen to it i would want to have it repaired.
I hope to post some more info about the van once i have gone through the information that came with it but briefly, it was a prototype built for the Everyman company by a guy who had been building his own vans and gained something of a reputation. Im told that it was envisaged as a rival for the Dandy folding camper but ultimately deemed too costly to build and so it never entered production. i don't know too much more about it at this stage so if any of that sounds familiar to anyone i'd greatly appreciate any and all information. I also acquired along with the van all the original plans and drawings, which i may consider making available at a later date.
Many thanks

i insure my portafold , through the caravan club. you need to be a member before you can get insurance , but if you use your van at their sites you get the discounts available. gordon28
ps the rear lights on your van are the same as on the portafold , and i have 2 spare lamp assemblies and 2 spare lens if you ever need one. the lamps and lens are available new, but only with a clear portion for a number plate as part of the red half. here's a pic of the spares.

Welcome Huff
I am also with the caravan Club - £42 pa for £1500 repair cover plus £500 contents, using my NCB to increase the value each year.
This is their minimum charge but you can select any value you like for more premium. _________________ Brian

does your caravan use the 10" mini wheels 145x10 Huff? because if you need chrome hubcaps , i picked up a set of 4 at my local show , not new but would give to you at same price , £5 + carriage. would have to get a close up pic of the rim to confirm though . cheers gordon28

Yes it does use the Mini Wheels, in fact the whole van was updated in the mid '90s to use Mini Hubs, wheels, brakes etc. The interior was updated at the same time and 240v electrics put in.
As i said before ive not really had chance to give it the full once over yet so i dont really know what i need and what i dont but many thanks for the offer and i shall keep it in mind. |
