Over the years there have been many wonder products that promise, better performance, starting,mpg lower oil cosumption etc in the form of a "Quick Fix"

I saw this on on another forum;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROVER-P6-spitfire-multispark-ignition-spark-enhancer_W0QQitemZ160267817716QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160267817716&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

It allmost certainly is just an ignition lead that has been cut,thus introducing a air gap.

Wonder what other wonder products you have seen over the years?

Hanging up in the garage I've got one of those extractor thingies that you attach to the end of your exhaust pipe, designed to hasten the exit of gases and make the engine run more efficiently. I've always been a bit dubious about its merits!!

The ebay ignition enhancer looks very much like a little Lucas unit I've got, that has a break in the HT lead within the casing that the spark must jump over, beefing the spark up apparently. I think the Devon has one fitted too, but I plan to remove it as when it touches a metal bracket nearby, the spark arcs across and cuts out the engine Confused

All it does is force the coil voltage up as it has to jump the air gap, which only will benifit you if the plugs are fouled, so firing at a much lower voltage with reduced spark, your right you do need to keep it away from anything that presents the HT with an easier path the earth!
In days gone by, if you had some fouled up plugs a trick would be to cut the HT lead and thread each side of the cable throug 2 holes of a 4 holed button, thus creating an airgap.

I've got something called the G.M. Manifold Modifier here, designed in theory to improve fuel consumption, and general engine wellbeing.

I have in the garage something called " Extend A life" all it is is 4 neaon tubes what fit in the HT leads. It was ment to enhance the spark to produce a hooter spark. this burnt the fuel betetr. so the oil was not contaminated and lasted longer.

No, all it did was delay the spark enough to effect the timming and waste more go go stuff.

Thats why it is covered in dust.
