This car was bought by a friend of mine in 1960. As can be seen it still has the original paintwork. I will send a small (and no doubt worthless prize) to the first person who can say why it would be impossible to buy new, similar paint for this car. I might add that it has nothing to do with the chemical composition of the paint. [img] [/img] _________________ To Hell with ambition, it drives a man mad, I can scarcely wake up to be fed. |

I had no intention of this thread being tasteless, I thought it demonstrated, quite rightly thank goodness, how this would not be even thought about as a colour description today. It also shows that you can't buy originality over the counter _________________ To Hell with ambition, it drives a man mad, I can scarcely wake up to be fed. |

I didn't think it was tasteless. One cannot undo history. When I was small, the "N" word was used without any intention of offence.
My Mum knitted with "N" Brown Wool, and because I would spend a lot of time in the sun, she would tell me I looked like a little "N".
There was a theater play called 10 little "N's". It was later changed to 10 little Indians, but I think that has been outlawed.
Here in Canada, the term has been changed to "First Nations"
Don't anyone ever dare tell me I am a "white Englishman", 'cos I may be deeply offended. |

One would never have thought the film 'The Dam Busters' could now be considered politically incorrect because of the name of Guy Gibsons dog;
I believe that in recent showings the offending name has been bleeped out. It's almost pythonesque the way a certain West African country, bordering the sahara, and named after its river, has been corrupted to something almost unpronounceable in the name of PC. What would Mungo Park have said(come to think of it, that name sounds a bit suspect.)
Perhaps I have seen too many changes in my lifetime and it's starting to strain(even my) sense of the ridiculous
But as Rick says, it's a bit too easy to stray on to dodgy ground with this one. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. I have written a book though. https://amzn.eu/d/7rwRRqL |

To all forum readers, but Roverron in particular.
We have just returned from vacation and true to his word, his prize for giving the correct answer was awaiting us.
Far from useless, it provides some interesting reading and information.
Thank you

I'm Scottish so this would be the biggest slur possible
On a similar note I still have my gollywog badge and toy from the old marmalade jars.... |
