Not a car, but my work place.
Its a several hundred year old Mansion, and no one noticed the neglect & grime all over this nice building.
So I took it on me to clean it.
PS - Dont watch if you are afraid of heights.

That works. Are you hanging out a window or up a ladder?

If you look at the start & first 10 sec, you can see the "basket" I stand in.
Its a lift - the only way to reach 70 feet up.
It could reach OVER the building quite "exiting" with the wind.
Here is what it looks like after I cleaned it =

Gearbox & propshaft now fitted, together with a few new brakelines + new brakehoses all around.
Changed the oil on the engine too + new genuine filter.
She wasnt easy to get going - the diaphrame in the pump was a bit stiff, so even thou I sucked fuel through several times, it didnt start pumping, untill it had sat with fuel in it for 15 min.
The test showed 2 things = overdrive works -- but the gearbox seems to have a noise in 4th gear --
Normally this comes from the bottom shaft, but it had no play in either direction, and the gearbox was very clean everywere, with fresh gaskets.
The filter & magnets in overdrive also very clean, hence why I took the chance & fitted it.
Well I will see what happens when I take her on the road after the weekend, as she is not registred yet, so only tested her on the lift.

I guess it could be "exiting" but I'm sure you would prefer it to be exciting.

I didnt always restore old buildings, here is something from my past.
Making people happy is one of the most rewarding jobs one can imagine.
This was my occupation from 1979 to 2015.

I spent much of my working life with historic properties.
The the small family firm that I worked for specialised in the rescue and conversion of fine Country Houses to a very high standard. The idea was to sensitively divide Mansions (that would otherwise be demolished for housing) and create new, vibrant communities with a vested interest in saving our heritage.

Ray I had an interview for a pupils place at Ottershaw School in the days when Arthur Foot (Brother of Dingle and Michael, MPs) was the headmaster.

Hi Penman. From what I have heard you would probably not have enjoyed being a pupil at Ottershaw Park school.
I remember various stories about the Mansion. It was originally a charming 18th century Country House... but in 1910 it was sold to the very wealthy Fredrich Eckstein who rebuilt it as the large and impressive pile we see today. The new house was designed by architects Niven & Wigglesworth and was lavishly appointed with much marble and wood carving; reputedly to have cost £250,000!!!
Apparently Eckstein had Ottershaw Park built for his mistress... who on seeing the place dismissed it as being too small!!
One original feature we managed to retain was a magnificent bathroom from which it is said Eckstein could sit back in his bath and admire the view over the grounds.
My wife and I were interested in buying one of the Estate houses because of the fine setting and large plot but for reasons that I can no longer recall it didn't go through.
I had a wonderful job which I felt was really worth while. Sometimes there were surprises. In the coach house of one particular mansion in Windlesham, we came across a vintage Lorraine Dietrich tourer which had obviously not turned a wheel for many a year.
Another large Windlesham property, (that I have mentioned here before) was one on which I sadly missed out. It was a former Convent that eventually was demolished to be replaced with a an ultra modern headquarters for Bristol Cars.
I often wonder what a fine conversion the old Convent buildings would have made. |

Hi all
again it has been a long time since my last post - - sorry.
Many things have happen, and unfortunally of the sad nature.
Mr Erik Brandt first owner of the little Black WP/JS Mini I restored in 2006 / 07 passed away.
And 2 days ago mr Janos O`dor founder of JanSpeed engineering in Salisbury also passed away
May they both rest in peace.
Latest news in regards to the two Volvo 122S,s is that they have been joined by a third one - this time its a 223 with a P code for year model.
She is in VERY bad condition, but I have managed to retrieve the original engine = its now in my workshop, and its all complete despite having been taken apart, when removed from the car 25 years ago.

Hi Jens,
I was in Denmark three months ago. On a cruise from northern Germany. We called in at Copenhagen and Aarhus. Lovely country, although the weather was dreadful! (late April)
Over here we feel close to Denmark as your princess Mary is an Aussie girl.
