Being a volvo chap I was looking at the Volvo owners club site yesterday.A post there seemed to be from some boy racer,at first glance.
However it said that the sender was an Accident and Emergency ambulance driver who has accumulated 15 Notices of Intended Prosecution while answering emergency calls!
Apparently Staffordshire police issue these to such people if they are more than 20 mph over any limit then the driver has to fill in and submit forms to Plod Headquarters who can decide whether to proceed.
This will , no doubt, still be noted ,in each case to boost the SUCCESS RATE FIGURES when meeting the QUOTA.
Whatever happened to the good, old fashioned British copper?

30 mph over the limit is the threshold for compulsory disqualification. With some streets now derated to 20 mph I wonder if the +30 also applies to emergency vehicle drivers? Perhaps Scotty knows.

There are many roads where the limit+30 is perfectly safe. As an "enthusiastic" driver (except in the Matta!) I find the ever increasing victimisation of motorists very sad and annoying...but that's slightly off topic Laughing

I understand emergency services are, in theory, supposed to abide by all speed limits. Therefore a particular "offence" could lose them their licence.

There was such a case about a year ago, where an Ambulance driver was prosecuted, this kind of thing results in working to rule.

I'd like an Ambulance to attend me as quickly as possible, but not at the risk for the driver or other road users....so I guess there's no easy answer?
