This is a pass issued to a Bude Post Office van in 1940, possibly to allow movement through road blocks near the local airfield.
Found in a Post Office envelope marked with the vehicle registration No.
Anyone seen one of these before or is it an unusual find.

I've not seen one of those before, do you know what vehicle it applied to?

After the war Civil Defence (CD) became the order of the day and I know they had many authorities bestowed on them with regard to Defence of the Realm regulations, closing roads as and when required being one of them.

I've seen Defence of the Realm "discs" as we have some in the museum collection, but this is the first time I've seen or been made aware such a certificate that you've posted existed.

Perhaps it might be worth-while seeing if there's any CD archive web sites to follow up your interesting discovery?

Rick,
I only know the registration No of the van not the make, the No was BXT 132.

Scotty,
I have contacted a Post Office historian and sent him a scan, He'd not seen one before.
This one very nearly got destroyed, I was helping a friend clear out a garage and this was tucked in an old piston ring catalogue he chucked in the skip. I went in after it, with it was some old headed notepaper for a long defunct local garage.

Oh Yes , it got rescued.
It's a 1936-37 Brico Piston Rings and Cylinder liner catalogue, I also have a 1930 Brico Piston Ring catalogue.
