I have had an interesting problem with my standard 8mm movie projector, but solved it today. I have managed to digitise another piece of film.
In 1975 my wife and I undertook a little jaunt from Melbourne across the country to Perth and back, total round trip about 5,000 miles or if you prefer 8,000 kilometers.
This film is about one part of that journey.

For those of you overseas, it might give you an idea of the size of Oz when it is over 2,000 miles from Melbourne to Perth and a similar distance from Melbourne, north to Cairns. We did that trip too, in 1976- same car, same trailer, but unfortunately no movie film of it.

Wow! That was some journey Roverdriver, thanks for sharing it with us.
We have something in this country called Nulabour! which (some say) is equally difficult to survive. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. I have written a book though. https://amzn.eu/d/7rwRRqL |

Just like being back in the thirties and in colour too.
2000 miles in 5 days is cetainly a testament to the reliability of the Model A.
Greatstuff Dane!
Thanks for posting,

Hello rover driver many thanks for sharing that smashing film with us it makes our island realy very small . Some years ago i read a book called too long in the bush by a man named Len Beadle about the making of the gunbarrel highway with a cat D8 and a grader . If you get the chance it would be well worth a read .[If you have not already done so]Regards The Fly. |

Glad you enjoyed the film, Mr. Fly. I am just sorry that I don't have more of it.
Len Beadell wrote a couple of books about his roadmaking activities, unfortunately I can't remember the name of another one. He found that a Land Rover was an essential part of his equipage.
I love the story of when the grader blew its engine and it had to be replaced, he sent a truck to the nearest rail, about 700 miles away, to collect the engine. Problem was that there was no overhead gear to lift out the old and drop in the new. His solution was to dig a deep trench with the D8, run the grader into it, then lay a couple of girders from wall to wall to use as a gantry- now that is a good bush mechanic! _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |
