My Royale Rangemaster has gone to the menders today for some minor accident damage (minor? The estimate is for £2500, accepted by the insurance co.) to be repaired. My yard looks empty, cos I've never seen it without the 'van there! Perhaps I ought to buy another classic car to fill the gap......................

Hi 1.5ran. One of life's stupid little instances, I'm afraid, and entirely my fault. I can't even blame the wife! I was turning the van round in an empty 10 acre field, after towing everyone else off through the muddy gateway, and I hit a dustbin standing in the middle of the field, where it had been all week! The damage looked hardly worth bothering about, but as I'd never made a claim in over forty years, I thought, why not? expecting the panel to be repaired, but the insurance co insisted on replacement. As royale went bust in 1982, there are no new panels available, so the repairer will have to make one, hence the cost. I'm very glad I had negotiated for agreed value insurance, or they would have written it off.

My Royale came home yesterday, complete with new side panel, and repairs to the small damp patch they found when they removed the side. The new paint is a little "glarey", so I hope it will weather in. Biggest snag now is that I'll have to t-cut and wax the rest of it! Before or after rebuilding the Morris 1000, or the wheel arches on the range Rover?????????????? Decisions, decisions!
It's good to have it back though. The yard did look empty.
