Having one of those long soaks in the bath (as you do after a long hard day at work) and a thought comes in to my head (i dont have many good ones according to the other half)
but back to the question - what do you class as -
Retro
Classic
Vintage
is there a age limit, range or is it a matter of what you like to call it? |

just got this from wikipedia.......
A vintage car is commonly defined as a car built between the start of 1919 and the end of 1930. There is little debate about the start date of the vintage period—the end of World War I is a nicely defined marker there—but the end date is a matter of a little more debate. The British definition is strict about 1930 being the cut-off, while some American sources prefer 1925 since it is the pre-classic car period as defined by the Classic Car Club of America.
but I call my 1948 Alvis a vintage car

I think Retro is just anything new that apes the designs of the past. _________________ https://www.nostalgiatech.co.uk

In Australia, Retro means a new car that is styled somewhat similiar to an older vehicle. EG New Beetle, New Mini, Plymouth Prowler etc.
Vintage is a vehicle manufactured between 1st January 1919 and 31st December 1930. (Strict)
Post vintage is used more than Classic, and is a generic term refering to almost any car built after 1930, but over 25 years old.

and then there's the whole set of "auction house" definitions to go by! apparently any old bit of dross can be a "classic" if it hangs around long enough.
mine are just "OLD" to me.... even though i think the Galaxie does actually qualify as an "Antique" now. (1959; my Falcons are a '62 and '66 respectively, and my Spittie is a '79 with traces of '76 transplanted on) |
