|
|
Hi there
This is the first time I'm using this forum. Basically I'm the owner of a 1977 Carlight Casalette which is need of some serious carpentry work. I've been told that it is repairable but will take time (and of course money). Does any one know of a good carpenter (pref in the East / West Sussex area) who is willing to take on this beauty ? Some of the timber underneath is rotten and also the timber along the RHS and around the wheel arches need replacing. I really would like to get this van road worthy again, I think she's worth it.
I will get some pictures of the damaged timber uploaded once I've taken them !
THANKS ANNA

Have you considered going to Carlight themselves?
They offer a full repair and restoration service.

As RotaryBri has said you are fortunate that your manufacturer still offers a restoration service, but I hear that they are eye-wateringly expensive!
I have a couple of small caravan repairers in Essex, that I have used for getting parts when doing my DIY rebuild. I am sure there must also be some in your area, I just looked in yellow pages.
No-one would be able to give an accurate estimate of costs, as the extent of the damp will only be known when the outer panelling is removed. _________________ Brian

| Crowland Caravans near Peterborough look after a friend's Royale. They are very sympathetic toward the older vans. Phone 01733 211156 |

We specialise in caravan restoration and nothing else. I have a Carlight in the workshops at the moment along with 4 other British Vintage caravans and 2 American ones.
Carlight do do restoration work but in our experience only if you want the whole thing rebuilt and it will cost you your house, your wallet, 2 eye teeth and probably the earnings of your whole extended family for the next three generations
Carlights are definately worth saving. Known as the Rolls Royce of touring vans in there hayday they are among the elite. Craftsmen built and expensive when new and there is an active club for them
Most stuff on these caravans is within the scope of any competent DIY'er but that depends if you have room to store and work under cover or not.
If you would like to see if we can help then pm me and I'll give you our phone number so we can have a chat --- You may well be able to do this one yourself |
