Some cracking stuff seems to turn up on Oz Ebay, for instance this lovely old Bedford for just $250 start Shocked

I'd like to get one of those manual indicator arm things for a ute, if anyone has one spare? just like in the Bedford photo below:

That would be perfect when driving around Edinburgh. The number of times my mirror has been clipped by a cyclist, and the abuse you get from them when you dare say anything

Hi

My Friend has one on the Charabanc, he had to modify them though as it was american and for left hand drive, putting it on a car over here meant the reflector on them faced the wrong way.

Cheers

Dave

I think they had a control to move the "hand" to a vertical position, to indicate that you were going to turn to the left.

Here in New Zealand, hand signals were still part of the road code when I went for my licence in 1970.
Waving the mechanical arm up and down to horizontal meant you were slowing down.Held horizontal was a right turn.Held hard up to the cab,or as much to the vertical as possible meant left turn.In most cases this left turn was simply not used.
When using a real life human hand(the thought of it Very Happy ),the left turn was indicated by pointing your hand over the roof to the left.
The only signals you are likely to get these days only involve the use of 1,or at most 2 fingers
