My Old Man had one as a recovery truck in the 50's. He had a late night drag in for one of his tankers slid off an icy road. He woke an apprentice for some overtime, the drill was for the apprentice to wire tins of London Grill to the exhaust manifold so they had something hot at the scene. Driving along The Old Man said there was an almighty bang (not exactly his words) and the bonnet flew open 'clapped hands' then flapped about abit. The apprentice had forgotten to pierce the cans, it took him most of the next day to scrape the baked beans out of the engine bay. |
