|
|
Good evening all -
Bugly, my 1958 Morris JB van, has chrome trim around the front grill that is very tatty and quite rusted. The chances of finding replacement trim in good condition, especially in Australia, is probably running at about the same odds as a successful ice-cream vendor in the Sahara Desert.
Can any forum member please advise whether the trim can be successfully repaired and re-chromed? Or is it possible to remanufacture the trim and have it chromed?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Regards - Bugly

Hi Bugly,
I'm sure you'll know this - it all comes down to how much do you want to spend. Anything can be remanufactured, but the unit cost can be expensive if its in single figures i.e. one.
Have you joined a JB make club? They may have been down that road and had trim like the part you mentioned remanufactured and have some in stock. Likewise, a one-make club would be my first port of call to see if anybody has broken a van up and has trim parts for sale. Most owners know trim is the most difficult part to get so if the scrap their vehicle they tend to keep it to sell, the Mini based Wolseley Hornet and Riley Elf chrome trim is a case in fact.
A skilled metal worker should be able to straighten out damaged trim, likewise you could get it re-chromed, but I have a feeling it may be more than you might want to spend.
