Hi

I need to measure a turbocharger, and have been told to measure the inducer size. The inducer is the hole that you can see the veins through, or this is what I think it is, but do you measure the exhaust side or the compressor side?

There is half an inch differnce between the two.

Cheers

Dave

Hi
I suspect that what you need is both measurements, in order to find out the area of the input and also the area of the output, this then shows how much the air is compressed in order to get through the narrowing funnel, and thus the amount, pressure and speed of the air entering the TC.

using pi R sq

IE 2 and a half inch narrowing to 2 inch shows an area of 3.9275 sq in down to 3.142 sq in so there is an increase in pressure.

The mathematicians amongst us will no doubt know what equations to use to demonstrate the actual pressure increase in bars or ft/lb etc or the increase in speed of the airflow.

Hi

Hmm, now I am confused, maths is not my strong point, but my sister is a maths genious, so she will do the calcs. In my instructions it just says inducer, will have to email the author I think.

Cheers
