hey everyone. i have a question when it comes to primer. i have some bad patches on my car, there are bumpy bits and mini dents (where the primer or filler, has reacted). i am planing on sanding down the ares and refilling, thensanding. when it comes to primer, what would be best for this; a high build primer, or a spray putty (liquid primer), or do i use both? im quite confused.

thanks!

It does not look like reaction more like poor prep of metal and lack of stopper? Are they sanding/grinding marks? Sinking of fillers is quite normal if primer is applied too thickly

If it has reacted its best to level off and sue a thin water based isolator and then prime undercaot in the usual way

The door and the rear quarter have been filled but badly finished.

Judging from the door, I think there's a reair panel under there somewhere, likewise the rear quarter. If so that'll be good news but there is a chance that it's all filler!

You've either got to meet this head on and strip and redo everything or chance a 'bodge' with, at a guess, a 60% chance of a good result.

I would dig around a bit with some 80 grit on a block and see where that gets you. As long as there are no scabs and rust patches showing up you can key the area with the 80 off the block and then use an acrilic stopper to level up all the grinder marks.

Flat it, prime it and paint it. You will be pleased with the result, miles better than what you've got - But the biggest problem will be training your mind to forget about what might be lurking below that filler!
