A small parking shunt has caused an inch long crack to appear from the bottom edge of my wifes Alfa Romeo 156. I know that I can get it professionally repaired by any one of dozens of mobile bumper repairers, but it looks to me s though I could easily sort this out. The trouble is, though, that some plastics reject certain adhesives. Does anyone know of an adhesive that'll work with an Alfa bumper ? |

Hi Rapide,
Welcome to the forum. I don't really have a definitive answer for you but
just the other day I stupidly cracked a plastic door in our freezer and routing around the house for an adhesive I came across a tin of plastic pipe welding stuff. I was doubful that pvc pipes were in the same category as the type used in the freezer but after a test I'm pleased to say it gives a very strong repair.
I suspect it would also work well if you are reinforcing your crack with a sheet of plastic from behind.

U-Pol do a range of stuff for plastic bumpers, including paints, texture coatings, primers, adhesives and fillers under the Plast-X brand. I've not used any of it, I just saw it as I'm looking for stuff to repair my TR7's bumpers. |
