I was also wondering what mask to use, 50% say only air fed, 50% say 2K one use ones are ok for 36 hours etc?
Any info on the step by step doings much apriciated.

Hi Dave
Prep for 2k is the same as for other paints, the surface must be sound, I flatten with 800 wet&dry befor the first top coat.I, have sprayed directly over existing top coat, keyed with 800 wet n dry, I'm not sure if this is good practice! But the paint has allways adhered well, I did an mgb this way 12 years ago and its still fine!
The panels should be cleaned wipe and then a tack rag.
I mix the paint according to the mfcts spec, with an 'air drying or winter, hardener' then spend a bit of time spraying a scrap panel to get the gun set up right.
Regads the mask I have only ever used an air fed , but have seen the 3m short life ones in paint shops, but never used them.
Hope this helps, sorry if some of the spelling is off ,but am typing this on my phone! With its odd predictive text!!

Hi
Right, thanks for the info, I still have stacks of prep to do, but trying to think about it so I am ready. I wanted to paint the back with the dints and welds showing, will it still ahere, obviously I will still key it up with 800 paper?
I am trying to do the pannels off the pickup at the minute, doors, wings bonnet etc, then got the back to do and the cab, so a bit to do before I start painting!
Cheers

Hi
No I mean welds were the truck has been repaired over the years, the load deck of an old pickup shouldn't/wouldn't be shiny and perfect, it would be covered in patches and dents, so this how it will be. The small dents in the bodywork show age and the trucks history, it is not my place to remove/cover this all up in my oppinion.
Well thats my oppinion, I understand somepeople will disagree, but this is the way Ernie the E83W wants to be, he told me!
Cheers

Hi
The colour was matched from when it was in llandudno, like a blue grey over black wings.
I will probably have a go at the signing on a scrap bit of metal, if I am any good, will do it myself, if not I know of a signwriter.
Cheers

Hi
I got some mixing cups of the paint guy, but they aren't clear when I got hone, looked at them, and the measurements are on the outside, and they are opaque, polystyrene like cups.
Will try to get some clear ones from a friend up the road!
Cheers

Is the life of the 36 hour masks, from the time you open the seal or 36 hours painting?
Dave re the cups, who ever supplies the paint will give you a few cups for free.

Hi Paul I have been rollering 2 pack on unseen areas and mixing it 3:1 without adding thinners.
I was told I could do so by a friend sprayer.
However since u mentioned the correct way, is it the correct way for spraying only or even for brushing it or rollering it on?
Will it react in the future?
I havé not seen it react as yet!!! |

2 pack hardly reacts with anything. Never seen it unless its over a siliconed surface etc.
Rollering it on is fine. Good idea! 2:1 is for spraying.
The measurements are for allowing the stuff to go off correctly. _________________
