Ive been reading the forum for a while now, its a great knowledge base! Very Happy
Thankyou for your replies regarding my first post about using Sikaflex.

Finally this summer our caravan came outdoors for a few(2!) trips since we bought her home from Sweden last winter Exclamation So here are a few pics. It took us a long time(years!) to find this model, there are not too many left, and finding one without rot a challenge.
This winter we have to repair the frame just around the front main strut tops and rear handles (typical repairs) under windows, otherwise all good, including the floor ( It has an 8" 'drop down' aluminium floor for increased headroom when parked up)
I have since these pics started to remove to red and white ( later colourscheme) paint to expose the original cream underneath. (This model is fondly known as the Egg ) But I am not repainting it! I am touching in scratches and scrapes only as we prefer the original patina. But I will restore the chassis frame and repaint in cream smoothrite.

She is the same year as our '59 VW Samba, but we have not got around to fitting the towbar on the bus yet, so we are currently towing it with our '79 Pickup ( just repainted)

A few weeks back 3 of us got together at a local vw show ( very wet and muddy weekend!) And I am not certain, but think it may be the first time that 3 SMV's have been together in the UK?!
The other 2 friends have Citroen DS's and also another VW bus!

Edward, the owner of the middle SMV is also a very clever restorer ( he restored both the silver SMV's in the pic) And he will be at Goodwood Revival this year with his Caravan and Citroen.

My partner imports early VWs from Sweden and also a few SMV10's in the past.

Look Forward to maybe meeting some of you next year sometime Very Happy

Anna

This pic is more recent, you can see how she's changing back to original!

Hi mrsherbie
I would suggest that you check the settings on your photo hosting site.
They may be set so that they can only be seen by yourself, or possibly by someone who is logged in.
There should be an "allow access to all" or some such setting which requires clicking "on".

hi rick, nice to hear from you, my splitty is in realy lovely original condition as i,m not one for lowering and sticking great big fuel guzzling lumps in it, i,m a bit of a puritan when it comes to originality. the s.m.v caravan is just the same. the condition is just fantastic and totaly untouched. the previous owner looked after it so well all of its life and although there are not very many left (only 750 units ever made) this is a one off. i import retro looking lightweight classic caravans for a living and i,v never come across one in such original condition. it looks fab on the back of the splitty. we love it and i,m loath to ever part with it , but its bussiness and if i get the rite offer like all my other vans she,l have to go. anyway i,l stop harping on about it now, ( is it too obvious that i love the s.m.v, NO" NEVER") when i can work out how to post images i,l send some but i,m not so hot on computers and when i go to photo bucket and try i can,t work out what URL is or where it is. gonna get a mate to show me soon so hopefully. kind regards, neil

Hi
On Photobucket there a 4 links under each photo, left click on the bottom one IMG and that will copy the link, then move to where you are entering a post in here, right click then click on paste in the little menu that comes up.

Hi,

I'm looking to get in touch with owners of SMV caravans. I would like to arrange a photo shoot with an SMV for an upcoming book.

If any owners are interested please get in touch.

info@mediapie.co.uk

Kind regards

Chris Haddon
