Iain sent this question over, does anyone here know the answer?? (lowdrag maybe??)
===============
Hi,
I have had no success in discovering the reason for the white stripe
on the trailing edge of the fin which appeared at some stage during
the event and I am sending out as many feelers as I can in order to
find out. Photos, in Andrew whyte's book show the car at a night pit
stop, clearly with no stripe but photos at the end of the event and
on its return to England show a 3" wide white stripe.
Do you have any idea why this was applied during the race?
Regards,

| I allways thought it was so that the pit crews could tell the the team cars apart as they went passed the pits at night |

Just found this thread. I have hundreds of photos of this car, this one being the latest:-
Not sure what race we are referring to here, but he seems to have found the answer anyway. This photo was taken at Mulsanne bend during the Legends race the Saturday of Le Mans. They had no luck with the owner's cars - the D blew and engine in practice, they flew another out and fitted it for the race and then that blew too. Then his E type blew spectacularly spinning out and leaving abig oil slick.

| Since 2001 it has resided in Sussex Rick. One of the strangest stories is the number plate which, being red, is obviously a trade plate. However, the owner was driving along one day and saw a spridget with the same number plate, stopped the guy and bought it off him. Now, while it appears as in the day, it actually owns that plate! |
