Does this one ring a bell with anyone? I wouldn't fancy changing the plugs if that manifold was hot...

Rick,
I recon what you have there is the head off a Rover 9-20 from the mid 1920s, capacity 1074cc .
My first posting on this forum was a question to ID an old engine I have here and it was identified by "jonpe" in the UK as the aformentioned Rover. There is quite a long thread on it from a few months ago and John kindly posted some photos of his cars engine to varify that was indeed what it was.

Check out this thread,
Can anyone ID this 1920s English (?) car engine ?

Graham

wow well spotted, yes it does look the same (I think I have one of those mags too). I've also an odd gearbox for something early, will have to have a look at that too, see if its like the one in the other thread you mentioned

The gearbox is easy to ID.
Aluminium case and all the gears ect are inserted from the rear and then the back plate is bolted to the rear of the box to keep it all together. There isn't anything on the engine transmission assembly on this one I have thats done in the "normal" way, they are very unusual.
