I notice in the paper that theres a car show (mostly modern i bet) at the Hartford campus of mid Cheshire college, one of the companies there is a restoration place thats on the road between Northwich and the M56. The college also have some motoring courses, not sure if they are resto or just for plugging modern cars into a laptop to diagnose problems..

Hi

I found this on there website: http://www.midchesh.ac.uk/news.html?news_id=59

They call it a motorshow, but don't say much about it. Unfortunateley I am at a bit of a bash at Buxton on Sunday, with a few other minis. On one of the steepest roads in Britain!!

Cheers

Rick, Buzzy, I know that the pair of you are interested in learning about ash framing, but the question is, how deep do you want to go into the subject?

That is a difficult one, how deep can you go? On what scale are you speaking on?

I think I would have to have start learning about it to tell you that one.

Cheers

Basically, as deep as you want to. Just what exactly would you want to do? Just make the odd replacement piece, or a complete frame?

Assuming that you have reasonably good woodworking skills, the most difficult part for you would be bending / shaping the wood. Is this something that you want to learn?

How much woodworking equipment do you have access to?

I was always cr*p at woodwork at school, so sadly I'd probably farm out wood frame stuff to people who could do the job justice - perhaps to BB if he gets genned up on it all Very Happy

I am not bad at woodwork and enjoy doing it! I work with a certain blacksmith that has a bit of equipment and my dad has a few hand tools!

Like I say I will have to do some reading into the subject before I can say how far into the subject I want to go, also it depends how much I enjoy doing it!

Cheers

If I was going to make an ash frame nowadays, then I would do it in the traditional way, but use modern tools where possible. Some specialist tools are required, and these can be difficult to get hold of.

Buzzy, if you enjoy woodwork, then I´m guessing that you will find it more addictive than your bees!

Rick, I was just having a trawl and found out that both of your favourites, the E83W and the Devon, could be bought as Woodies at one stage. now there would be interesting projects!

Yeah, one of my mad ideas last year, when I had quite a few E83Ws in various states of undress, was to get someone to build a woodie..! but they've gone to new homes now, and I've got into other projects since!!!!
