Hi all,
I'm new on this forum and I don't currently have a classic car but I'm interested in everything up to the mid eighties including military and commercial vehicles. (that's a lot i know)
Great site you have here, especially the abandoned vehicle section .
One of the reasons I've joined this forum is because I've drawn a blank in trying to I.D a pre-war late 30's wreck that resides just up the road from where I live.
I don't have a photo at the mo' but it's a sedan type car with a logo that says
something like MUMPF or MWMPF or MUIMPF. The logo is a red globe on a blue, circular background with the word written over the globe in quite fancy , joined up writing.
It's a nice looking car that's on someones drive but I can't tell which house the drive belongs too so I' hoping the collective expertise of the forum can help.
The only thing I came up with was MUMPF is a region of Switzerland. The car is RHD so I assumed it was made in the UK.
Hope someone can help, I'm intrigued . |

Hi B.J.
Welcome to the forum.
I wonder if the mystery word could be Triumph.
It probably dates from the late 1940s or early 1950s is either a Mayflower or a Renown. The Renowns either had a 1.8 litre or 2 litre engine (same as TR2s and Fergy tractors. I can't remember the engine size of the Mayflower but I think it might be 1.2 litres. Renowns have 4 doors and separate headlamps. Mayflowers have two doors and headlamps in the wings.

I am sure Peter's suggestion is correct - if you thought it was a pre-war car, the chances are it is one of the Renown family, like this:
Just for reference, here is the Mayflower:
These are the only two which use the globe badge and remotely resemble your description. |

Hi
According to the badges site a globe badge was used, as well as the other one, from 1923-1984.

If there was an uncoloured globe earlier, could someone have replaced it with a later type? _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Ahhh yes. You're right. That makes perfect sense now you've pointed it out. That's the logo alright but it doesn't seem to be those models. It has the sharp lines of the mayflower but it has running boards and lights on top. It also has a wooden dashboard. I'll try to get some photo's this week and post them.
It looks straight in the body. I'm sure it will make a really nice restoration.
Thanks |

Hmmm!
The first Triumph car was the 10/20 in 1923. That and other vintage Triumphs used the globe badge, but I am pretty sure it was discontinued when they introduced the ribbon-style radiator in 1930. Certainly the Glorias, Southern Crosses and Dolomites of the 1930s did NOT use the globe badge.... but of course it is quite possible to fit one.
I will be interested to see the photos |

Ah the Mayflower, I think this is one of the most insipid cars ever made. It is so dull that it is the worst bits of every bad car that you can think of. If Dinky had made a real car on a drunken friday afternoon this is it. I guess that is why it has a special place in some peoples hearts. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

Oh you are a cruel man Nic. The razor edge styling was quite nice so long as you didn't polish it too hard.

I'm not sure, I actually think they're quite cute! Although the pre=war sidevalve engine was terribly underpowered with a top speed of, I think, 62mph. They were aimed at the American market but they were too gutless for the US freeways so it was a predictable flop. Certainly they're so rare now they're interesting _________________ Richard Hughes |

I see the Mayflower owners club offers support for owners. I would imagine this would be couselling for when they park next to another car from that era and realise just how bland their car is. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

On second viewing, it is a Renown. And quite nice too.

Hi B.J.,
Yes, that's a Renown and I suspect you could probably see off Nic in his Talbot in a properly maintained one.
Peter
p.s. Well certainly his Morris 8 anyway. Come-on Nic let's see some performance figures
p.p.s. B.J. You got your img and /img twisted.
p.p.p.s. Nice garage doors. None of this up and over nonsense.
p.p.p.p.s. Forget the V8. Orginality is the thing. You can still beat Nic. _________________ https://www.nostalgiatech.co.uk

Tried to enable the pics for you by altering [img] [/img] but it didn't work, probably because I don't have a flickr account _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Bristols!
Let's keep sex out of this. We want performance figures.
