Welcome Martin!
Nice project Get it under cover and start getting all the literature on it you can. Make an assesment of the work involved getting it back on the road. Decide what sort of level of restoration you want to aim at. |

I would suggest one of the first things is to join a Morris 8 owners club, I'm sure there is one if you google. There maybe someone not too far from you who knows about this model who can give advice, possibly even help. _________________ Owner of a 1953 Sunbeam Alpine |

Welcome to the forum Martin. That looks like a great find. There are quite a few very experienced Morris 8 restorers on this forum so I'm sure you'll have plenty of advice on tap if you need it.

Thanks for all the welcomes. I am going to join the morris register. the car needs new running boards and a fair bit of patching, i was aiming at a full rebuild, but i have also thought about, trying to keep it as original as possible.
cheers

Welcome to the forum Martin, I'm 20, so just a bit younger than yourself. Lovely old motor you've got there, that is definitely the best way to find them. If it's as good and original as it looks under the dust, I'd start by giving it a good wash and polish (don't use too much water as these old cars can leak!) then see if the engine will turn over on the starting handle. If it does it probably won't need much more than a clean of the plugs and points and a rigged up gravity feed fuel tank as the tank will almost certainly be full or muck.
Any more pics?
Richard. |

Hello & welcome to the forum Martin,
As has been said - it's nice to see yet another young person getting into the hobby!
My first car was a '35 'Pre-Series' Morris-8 saloon which my dad bought for me back in 1984, when I was 14 and which I had restored and finished by the time I was 17 - I'm 41 now but I still love Morris-8's to this day!
I have a 21yr-old who is also into old cars - he's restoring a wartime Jeep at the moment (I'm just finishing off a '38 Lanchester) and our friends 19yr-old son is also looking at buying a pre-war car soon, too - probably a Morris-8...
Stick with it mate - she'll be a pain to 'ya but she'll be lovely when she's done!
Regards - Guy.
PS - If your anywhere near Bedford or want any advice - feel free to get in touch! _________________ '38 Lanchester LA14-2 'Roadrider' DeLuxe and lover of all things 'WW2 - Jeep'!!! |

Ive been doing a bit of stripping, and unfortunatly 'shes' been bodged up with a few pots of fibre glass on the rear end. So im in the process of removing it, and trying to retain what tin work is left. I will post a few pics later.
But before she was parked up yet again, I had a drive in her, got oil pressure and even charge from the dynamo.
Cheers

Hi All
I have been lurking a while but this seems a good spot to pop up. I have a 38 Morris 8 which I am most of the way through pulling apart. Mine didnt come with a body so I will fabricate an ali boat tail speedster body.
I have a reco engine from a centurion tank gen set but am lacking a gearbox. Do any of the later morris boxes fit easy enough?
Anyway, here is my chassis this week. Last night I pulled out the rear suspension. Four bolts.
My dog shot. A bit termintorish though.
