We bought this lovely car in the early sixties. It only had one mudguard on the front at the time.My husband built a temporary one out of wood.
The cost of the car was £18.
Although I was a competent driver I found the gate-crash gearbox and double de-clutching hard to use from a sheer physical strength point. . So my husband drove down the hill to the bus stop so he could catch the coach to London and he then turned the car around for me leaving the engine running .I would jump over into the driving seat , by then it was in second gear, and I drove it up the steep hill and home...
We sold it for £80 five years later...... I wonder if it is still around ?Reg . TY 4933

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that has been in a museum somewhere since 1982! _________________ Richard Hughes |

Hello!
Thank you so much for letting me know about this The car was racing green when we had it..I wonder when it was painted black?
I remember so many things about this car ..steam coming from the engine because the water pump had a leaky pipe and us filling the radiator from a pond using an old tin can.
Also the horror my mother portrayed when I said we were going to bring our newly born daughter back from the hospital in the dicky seat area ,closed of course.Well we had carpeted it out and she came home very safely.Pat |

Try contacting the Alvis clubs - they may have a register. I am sure the person who has the car now would like their history file updated! _________________ Alistair

You could also try Red Triangle to see if it has passed through their workshops They may not be quite as forthcoming with info...data protection and all that garb.....! _________________ Alistair

|
|
Just to let you all know I have now spoken to the chap who now owns the Alvis we owned all those years ago.He lives in Scotland and was delighted to hear from me.I will be sending him a photo of the vehicle (apparently a Silver Eagle Alvis) and the various stories attached to it when we owned it.It was green when we had it .It is now black with red tyre rims and spokes.
So thanks to all of you who helped me locate the present owner..very much appreciated.
