Can anyone advise

I wish to get a chassis powdercoated.

I will be getting it sand blasted and then powdercoated,
but the painter is reluctant to powdercoat due to the fact that the front suspension rubber bushes are still in the frame.

He has informwed me that the oven bake will melt the bushes.

I need to know are the bushes up to the job, or should they be removed, if so how so.

this is one of the bushes, the bolt is seazed in, could the bush be removed from the frame using a home made press
Two sockets, one large enough to sit on the chassis, one small enough to slide through the chassis, a length of studding and nuts with large washers and a bit of elbow grease.
Or do I need a press

Failing the removal of the bushes, if needed, he can do a two pack primer and finish for me, but would prefer the powdercoat.

Thanks
Roger

If your going to use the socket method---the siezed pin will have to come out to accomodate the studding pin..that being the case---set the rubber on fire, most of the rubber will run off.The chassis will then enable you to use a hacksaw to cut a groove in the steel bushing----and hey presto--the bush falls out with a light tap..

Thanks Ray

Think this will have to be the way to go, but will have to see if I can source some new bushes first.

Hi Michael

Will measure the bush today.
There is enough sticking out on one of them to get a caliper accross.
I'll make a note of I/D, O/D and width of outer and inner tubes.

A Senior moment on my part,AGAIN,
They must be available to size, as per bearings and other parts Rolling Eyes

could be similar to something more common and plentiful

i was thinking jaguar radius arm bush or triumph spring shackle, i think there was something similar on classic alfa's too

otherwise a drag link bush off something heavy might fit
