Hi. Recently, I travelled down to Wiltshire to see, and then buy, a Ford Popular 103e. It was,for some reason,what I`d been after for a while since I had been after a `classic` and this particular one was in my limited price range. It wasnt fantastic bodily, but considering the price I was pleased. In hindsight, with a huge choice of pre-1970 cars, it could have been any one of a number. 5 weeks on, I suddenly remembered what my lads had bought me for father`s day last year, amongst other car-related presents


A copy of the fine magazine, `Practical classics`. In it was an in depth acticle on Ford Populars(bottom right on the cover) complete with a few very good pictures of a beautiful example in canterbury green. Well, I tried to find the magazine this evening, but to no avail, searching everywhere. In desperation, I went into the loft,throwing this and that everywhere...and I spotted this


I used to collect The observers books of Automobiles, and this particular one was the 1958 edition. Well, I reached over and just caught the edge of it, sending it flying. I unearthed it to find it open at this page


I really couldnt believe it. 5 weeks ago, I had bought a Ford Popular, 1958, in Canterbury green.....spooky, and true..!

Oh how I remember the The Observers Book of Automobiles. I was given three of these second hand and by the time I passed them on I was as good as word perfect. Note the difference in compression ratio and power output between the Anglia and the Popular, the sort of fact that would have had me day-dreaming for hours!

i know exactly what you mean...i had 1955,58,and 64-70, then went into different things i guess. but i remember my birthday present during those golden years were always those wonderful books..
