what kind of thing were you thinking of - I've got (but not on the road!) an Austin 7 special, but I know Jim for one has a 30s-lookalike (a Gentry I think). Are you thinking of something fairly wild (eg VCool, or smaller and more nimble??

Sorry Rick, My Gentry bears a very close resemblance to a 1950s MG TF in looks (definitely post-war anyway). But NOT in performance. It has been electronically timed at 16.02 seconds for a standing quarter mile. It crossed the line at 94 mph and was still accelerating hard. 50s looks? 90s performance?

That can't be bad can it? It's about as streamlined as a brick!

Is Pigtin's car a candidate?

I am thinking large spoked rims, minimal bodywork probably a straight 6 or straight 8, huge steering wheel, 1 ton and 150 plus bhp, oh and BIG.

Propper scary toad of toad hall style motoring, complete with a claxon for the scaring of small children.

No frills, just big smiles.

I've tried old jags, ac cobra, tr6, quick moggy, mk2 escort, cossies, p6b, you name it I've been there, except for anything pre 60's. I really fancy a 30's special, just can't stop thinking about it.

I love that sort of style but I wouldn't have the pocket for it. But yes that is totally up my street. Would be willing to swap minor parts of my body.

I have seen a lovely Vauxhall with an aero engine at a show that makes me very weak at the knees. Owner was kind enough to talk to me about it without looking down his nose as well. simply gorgeous car with a lovely sound when he left.

borrowed photo of said car:

Those poor old La France fire engines sell for a tiny fraction of the Vauxhalls etc in the photo above.

Allways fancied trying something on a Rover P4 chassis They can still be picked up as the body work goes but the chassis last for ever, shift the engine back about four to six inches to better spread the waight and build a two seater body with cycle wings and a boat tail that way using this chassis with its drum brakes and steering box you would still have period handling as well as looks (the P4 with its offside handbrake would even be able to have a hand brake on the outside of the body with out too much work) dose any one know if pre war Rover P2 wire wheels will fit the P4 hubs? oh well dream on
