Not sure, according to the Telegraph it will be rolling at 40 years

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/10708398/Budget-2014-What-it-means-for-motorists.html

However, they refer to the change as being as per the announcement made last year, which wasn't for a rolling 40 years - just a move of one year and nothing else iirc ...

According to the Daily Mail:

"But the Reliant Robin is to become a 'classic car' and therefore exempt from road tax.

Under earlier rules only cars built before January 1 1973 were exempt from vehicle excise duty.

But Mr Osborne said a new 40-year rule would be introduced from April 1 2014, meaning newer models will now be exempt."

Yes, it's back to rolling. I downloaded a document which says:

"Vehicle Excise Duty: 40 year rolling exemption for classic vehicles

Who is likely to be affected?
Owners of vehicles built 40 or more years ago.

General description of the measure
The measure extends the exemption from Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) to vehicles constructed 40 or more years ago on an automatic rolling basis on 1 April each year."

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/293910/TIIN_2507_8011_40_year_rolling_exemption_for_classic_vehicles_.pdf

As mine was registered in the first few days of 1976, I just need no-one to interfere with this for a couple of years. If I can prove it was built in 1975 I might get away with making it historic from April 2016, but I don't have the benefit of BMIHT to help unfortunately.

So for my Lotus which is 1985 I have another 10 years to pay...I think I pay about £250.00 per year so only another £2500 to pay Sad knowing my luck they will change the rules again in 9 years time!

Good new for many. 40 year old cars will be increasing in value Id wager.

My motorcycle (£70 a year tax) was registered on April 6th 1974. I have been contacting motorcycle clubs, and can now prove it was made during September 1973. Happy days...........

I also read an article, that it is expected by the end of the year, the tax disc will be a thing of the past, logical really with everything being registered on a data base, accessible by any Police Officer.

Yes, the tax disc thing was announced in the last budget, and I think takes effect from October this year, so I've bought the last tax disc for my daily driver.

I wouldn't get too excited by this change; it may well be in preparation for the introduction of the more draconian classic vehicle taxation and use regulations already in force in other European countries.
