Two pictures of the 1950's Freeman we found yesterday. I drive past the house where it is almost every week, but have never noticed it before. It spent the best part of 22 years by a gliding centre on top of the Long Mynd, one of Shropshire's highest hills, and was towed down again by its owner a couple of years ago. I'm not sure what the wooden slats across the front windows are for . . .

I like the Eccles and definitely the Freeman. It's like our Wel-Free, but longer. Was yours a Wel-Four? It's amazing how many people have told us the windows on ours are not original and are modern replacements . . .
The bloke who owned the Freeman we came across seemed a bit bemused that we wanted to photograph it, making the point that if he saw us in the village pub he would remember us as "those two odd-balls who spend their Sundays searching out people's cast-off caravans" . . . I can think of worse reputations to have! |

Hi Barry, the freeman in my pic is a wel -four, this particular van was a special made for a retired colonel, with the interior layout to his own design, the original 6 inch deep, sprung upholstery was still with the van
a very heavy van for its size well over a ton ! god only knows what the one you found weighs, |

Well done Barry, your "I Spy" caravan book must almost be full. It is a Freeman Talisman 19ft 6 in ex works weight 28.5 cwt at the Motor show 1954 /55. Radio and the china teaset were extras. Cost a mere £1070. A friends parents had one in the early sixties , pale yellow with a white roof. They towed it with a Land Rover.
In the "Caravan magazine Nov 1954 the Freeman advert show a Talisman with a J40 pedal car in front as the tow car. I remenber as a kid having one of these and it took me all my efforts to pedal it as it was soooooo heavy
