Does this sound like a particular car to you?? this query arrived the other day. Quite a few cars had built-in "Jack all" systems.

Hi,when I was an apprentice motor mech., a long long time ago, I remember an old (even then)british car with a built in hydraulic jacking system, central lubrication system and an automatic self starting system. I am hoping you will be able to help me identify what it was. It has been nagging at me for years to find out and I thought the i-net would be the answer but no luck so far. The vehicle would have been either pre-war or soon after. ww2 that is.

Some pre war Rovers had auto/semi auto (you pushed a plunger) chassis lube (it was not uncommon then) built in jacks and a self starting system for use when held up so you could switch off at traffic lights etc I think called Lucas Startix or some such. MG YA/B as mentioned had the jacks but not the other.
All rather unneeded and heavy in the case of the jacks (Jackall system as mentioned).
The Startix has been reinvented by I think VW recently I recall. _________________ Jonathan Butler

In the late 50's, my neighbour had a 1936-ish Standard 10 with Startix. I don't know if it had the other fittings. There were only two cars in the street and the managed to collide.
