Thought you'd like to see the latest and hopefully last restoration. The photos probably make it look better than it is, although the majority of the lovely glossy wall and ceiling boards are intact and all the original fitments but it does need tons of work. I assume from the serial number its 1971 I've been looking at the many photos of Safaris but haven't actually found one with the gloss finish or the taps in that position so it will be interesting to hear from Brian.
It does mean that I will be off the classic scene until next season, so until then its the modern van and showing my vintage bicycles.

RR125 - Welcome to the ranks of Safari owners.

You have a rare model - I only know of two other 14-4's. there are plenty of 15-4's, and most 14's were only two berth, but it seems Safari would build specials to customer requirements even if they weren't listed in their catalogues.

Your gloss finish is definitely non-standard, and the taps have been added by an enthusiastic owner. How does the water get into the sink? Does yours have a hot water supply to warrant two taps?

I hope you are aware that I have a big stock of spares from the three Safaris I have broken over the years.

Hi Brian, many thanks for all the info, it being especially built for a customer would explain a lot of things, certains features don't fit in with other safaris of that age. There is water heater, it looks like the standard one used in Safari of that age but mounted in the toilet compartment instead, best wishes Steve

I must admit the gloss finish gives it a real art deco feel inside, hope to meet you at the world record attempt at Stapleford Park in August, the van won't be ready in time so we will be there with the vintage bicycles. Steve

Young Jamie with the accordian has a '68 Safari 14/4 with a split screen Steve, not got any of that fancy water works or anything though, infact im sure his is on 13 inch smiths 4 stud wheels aswell. Not 5 stud like your's would that be right Brian ?

I have not studied the studs on Safari wheels

From the handbooks I have for various years - 12, 13, and 14 feet Safaris are on 4 stud 13"wheels, the 17ft are on 5 stud 14".

But as previously said the 14-4 is not listed, so perhaps they put 5 stud on it.

Is "Young Jamie with the accordian" a member of my Safari Group?

Ours is on 15 inch 5 stud as I found to my cost when bringing it home, luckily out of 7 tyre places I found one with a 165/15 in stock, although changing the tyre on the motorway was fun. Steve

No Brian, he isn't in any group or club as far as i know, infact the caravan is realy his girl or should i say lady freind's. All though i trust you will be bringing some details of the group to the record chalange at the end of august. They should both be there.

Infact from memory (im parked up in the lorry 150miles from the entry forms) I have 3 split screen safaris booked that are not part of your group. I know 2 of them arn't on the interweb so i hope you bring your best recruting hat with you.
