We spent the weekend at the HCC National Rally at Guyhirn in Cambridgeshire in fine weather and excellent company. Here are pictures of some of the 33 caravans which attended. The glaring, hot sun made taking photos difficult, so some were taken early this morning - very early in actual fact, as I misread the time on my watch and thought it was 6.00 a.m. when it was actually only 5.00 a.m.!

Great photos Barry! I could be seriously tempted if I ever happened across a pre-war van like any of these Smile (but I'd need more undercover space first!)

Where was everyone? Even at 5.00am. The beds don`t look slept in. Very Happy

You obviously didn`t drink enough of the local brew,ELGOODS ALE brewed up the road in Wisbech, before you went to bed. Wink

Or you would not be able to focus your camera at that unearthly hour, Yawn Yawn Exclamation Exclamation

Nice caravans and photo`s though. Cool

I saw some caravans on the A15 Friday evening,on their way to this event no doubt.

G'day Barry,

Thanks for the great photos, and a special thanks for the captions... saves me hunting around to put names to some of them.

Silly question Rolling Eyes why is the Gibson Eccles called a Gibson Eccles ?

And just between you and me.... which one did OVM borrow ?

Cobber.

Hi Cobber, the Gibson Eccles , got this name because of the makers plate that was on the A frame, Gibson Eccles only made trailers, so we think this van was "custom" built , if you look the wheels are the wrong period for this type of van, but correct for a trailer from the early 30s
by the way we were in the van with the girly name Laughing

G'day OVM,

Thanks for the info re the Gibson Eccles... interesting.
Angela looked pretty good on the outside at least, but I do like
to see the period paraphernalia on display as shown around
the Shadow.

Why are you borrowing a 'van to go to the rally, are you in
the middle of a big restoration.... again ?
And I have to say... I have a smile on my kisser when I see
you and Brian struggling with the sunshine and the incredible
heat ….. what was it, about 75° Shocked Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing Wink

Hi Cobber,
The absence of Paraphernalia is due to it been a club rally and the vans not being on display,
We where in a borrowed van, due the fact i have sold our van and have not found a replacement yet Smile no major caravan projects, have got a 51 Dodge hot rod on the go, And am still on the mend from doing a hand stand on me Harley, broken bones seem to take longer to mend, the older you get Laughing
As for the sun, i love it Very Happy my comment about having a "touch of the sun "was just a polite way of saying i got a hang over Wink

Okay all you trailer guys, this is the life. 33 caravans turned up to the National. It was a brilliant social weekend with some early excellent caravans there.
Anyone can join the Historic Caravan Club which is a good way of tracking down caravans, meeting new friends and having a good time!
Consider joining
Thanks for putting some photos on Barry.
Caraboy Very Happy

Does anyone who was there have any photos of the stunning 1952 Vickers Lunedale and tow vehicle they could post? I missed taking pictures of them.

G'day OVM,

Yes I suspected you might have been suffering post too much of a good time but not for me to say so Wink
You're right older bones do take longer to heal but then....older bones usually know not to do hand stands on dirty big Harleys Razz Wink

Look forward to seeing the rest of the 33 'vans at the rally.

Cobber.
