That type of gas light had a metal shade holder and a glass shade. its looks around 1950's. In the 1930's the lighting usually came from oil lamps, hung in gimbels on the wall of the caravan. Have seen a few on e-bay. I have a spare metal shade holder that would fit your light, but dont have a shade . If your interested PM me.

Hi, gas started to be fitted in caravans late 1936 on, two types where available Botto gas and calor, in the early days you had send your gas bottle by train back to London to get it filled ! i once owned a 35 Eccles complete with full gas cylinder and attached train ticket from 1938 Smile
as for your van the gas fitting is post war, if you want a shade i have a few in stock , the original lights for this van would have possible been electric and been powered from the car battery,
My friend Dalek63 is right in saying oil lamps would have been used, but in a van as small as this one the fumes of the lamp would get a bit overpowering.
Having seen the pics of the van , i would say this is just a minor issue Smile with alot of hard work yet to be done Smile
Good luck with the resto OVM Smile
