I always find this sort of thing rather odd - your mileage might vary of course - but if you want an old car buy one with history and originality to enjoy. If you want a new car buy one too but why buy an uprated facsimile made by a company which while it may have the name is not the old firm.
Presumably the publicity has done Red Triangle no harm but I bet they make very few. The nonsense about numbers sanctioned is a great spin - they could number them how they like!
The name is not enough - apart from Triumph think of the various failed attempts to capitalise on the assumed desirability of old motorcyle makers names.
And yes I can't afford one but if I could can think of many cars I'd rather have at the price and originals too.
Anyway I wish them well - _________________ Jonathan Butler

I tend to agree - even the late Rover name was nothing more than a badged Austin/Honda and finally a low grade BMW - same could be said of Bentleys and Rolls Royces but some of the old culture may still survive there but Rovers started going when it was taken over by Leyland Motors in 1966 and was finishe dby the time it mergered with BMC/Jaguar less than 18 months later
New reincarnations are nothing more than replicas from times gone forever _________________ Rover P2

Well, the rebirth has worked in some cases though. There were the Lister Centenary models, of which I believe five were built, which are now commanding exhorbitant prices because they are classified as being a continuation by the factory of an old model and so are sanctioned to race, and I guess you could include those Sanction 2 DB Astons in this category. Weren,t they £750,000 all those years back when new? Oh, and di you know (I've seen it but wasn't allowed to photograph it) that Brough Superiors are now being made again? |
