I believe that this photo was taken in the early 1920's. I think it might be a Flanders Studebaker but am not sure.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry I can't offer a proper identification, however IIRC Flanders were no longer made after about 1913, and although the radiator shape looks like a Flanders, the rest of the vehicle seems too late.

The all electric lights, steel disc wheels and general body shape (to say nothing about the driver's hat!) all suggest 1920's.

Of course it could be a 'modernised' Flanders.

Radiator shape also reminds me of Talbots and Standards, but don't think it is one of those.

'Pan' headlights seem to reinforce your suggestion of being American origin.

Thanks for the feedback. I know from a 1922 press advert that this company were disposing Flanders Studebaker vans. But the van in the picture might be later than that.

There is some useful information about Flanders and Studebaker here

http://detroit1701.org/Studebaker%20Plant.html

and here-
http://www.peterspioneers.com/flanders.htm

It seems that Studebaker did not use the Flanders name after about 1912/13. The van looks much later than that, although the radiator, bonnet, guards do look right for circa 1913. The only conclusion that I can draw is that the van is based on a 1912/13 car, that has been re-worked and 'modernised' with all-electric lights and van body.

An interesting mystery!
