Driving around in something old can open up conversations with people you'd never otherwise have ended up chatting with. Popped out to the Post Office today in the 34 Minor, and a retired bloke wandered over for a chat, saying that he has a 30s Austin, bought forty+ years ago for not-a-lot, and some other things tucked away on his farm, including an E83W.

This is the second E83W I've heard of in this area, tucked away. The other belonged to a bloke interested in old tractors, but I think this is someone else and I've yet to see that one.

What interesting conversations, or other experiences, has an innocent ride out in your old car led to?

Rick

When I am with the 8 people come up to me and I look at them as they aproach, judge their age and say;
1 did you learn to drive in an 8?
2 I bet you had one of these.
3 I bet your dad had one of these.
8/10ish I get it right, it's not hard. One day someone will say "no I had my first ........" Then we all go a little red and giggle.

I found my A35 garage find by talking to someone Cool

Most people who come up to me and talk about the car either used to own one, or a family member owned one, or they passed their test in it "Has it still got the trafficators?" is a common question! I have to explain that was the A30, not the A35.

Last year just after I sold my blue A35 and bought my current black one, I'd just parked up in town when an old man came up to me, and said "There's someone in Wakering with a blue one of these, he's always driving it around". I didn't have the heart to tell him who it was!

Coming out of Morrisons with the weekly shop and at least one person will have taken an interest in the car, this is an good thing. Usual conversation which I have to cut short so I can get home to the freezer Smile
