I have been agonizing for about a year now as to what to do with my'fleet.' I really need one practical car that the memsahib can drive. She used to enjoy driving the 10/4 but shoulder problems and the fact she is used to power steering on the modern means she won't drive it now.
She does not like the driving position in the Sprite and the Special is definitely out of the question; so we don't have a second car she will use.
Looks like I will have to do a few tidying up jobs on the 10/4 and sell it to finance the purchase of a Morris Minor Traveller. I think with the rack and pinion steering she should find it easy to drive. I am now getting into my seventies and have to think about making some room in the garage and getting rid of the three shed-loads of treasure (junk to most.) and three cars that do just a thousand miles between them.
I have a reccuring nightmare about falling off the perch and a junk man clearing the lot away for a few quid. I have known it to happen too often. Rolling Eyes

Don.

Downsizing is something that doesn't sit well with me either when I have thoughts of cutting down a bit. I think the most difficult stage is making the actual decision itself - once I've decided to pass on a project or whatever, I want it gone asap. If I feel relief when something goes, then I know I've made the right decision.

I am personally ok in this respect because my son is an enthusiast, and my will specifically leaves classic cars, caravan, tools, spares etc to him, while my daughter gets all my wife's jewellery.

But I have two friends who are widowers without children who would be interested in their classics who have put clauses in their wills that I am to dispose of their classic vehicles, spares, and car book collection. They have stated a percentage commission for me to ensure I get the best prices possible, and the net proceeds are to be divided between their heirs. They hope that I will find purchasers who will enjoy and preserve their classics, and avoid the junk man.

I know it is a gloomy subject, but everyone needs to think about inheritance taxes before the time comes...

Just took the rear wing off to attend to a small piece of rot, there was no rot 15years ago when I last took it off. Oooer! looks like I have some grinding and welding to do before I think about selling it.

Ooo eck, any ash sat behind there?

Wouldn't mind a 10/4 saloon sometime, but I should probably resist any thoughts in those directions for the timebeing Smile

There was once and that's the problem. must have got wet when I had a leak in the roof. Using classics as a second car has its down sides. Sad
