Managed to resist the temptation until tonight when Emma said why not its cheap..so I did! Was one of the 10 Caravans for offers around 20 quid on Ebay, one by one they were sold and the number dwindled until there was an Elddis and the Thomson left (I think its a Glenelg). Now there is only an Elddis!
Going to collect it unseen on saturday, told it will tow, tyres have air and it has 'stuff' inside Paying £30 for it and even if its no good will give me some much needed spares.. Ok Im trying to convince myself here
Not got any photos of it, the listing was edited as soon as I said I would have it.. will see on Saturday _________________ Mick

Oh dear!
Seems you have got it really BAD! If I were you i'd seek therapy ASAP. Didnt do any good for the rest of us, but you never know it might just save you . _________________ I can resist anything except temptation ! ( Oscar Wilde)

Been to fetch it today only about 20 mins away made it back ok, all lights worked tyres had air but one blew out at 40mph on the way back Was a dull bang not too loud then it went bumpy, stayed straight, didnt pull all over just slowed down and pulled off the main road. Went to work got a spare wheel and changed it.
Its a bit of a mess, has been used for storage for a while and is full to the window level with junk rubbish and random stuff. Not had chance to look properly as it was getting dark, will see how it is next week and will get Photos soon. It is a Thomson Glenelg as I thought, mid 70's version _________________ Mick

| Tell you what, I've seen a lot worse than that. Will look great behind a Granada. Or a Ventora. Or a Volvo. Or a P6. Or a Hawk. Or a _________. |

| Some good rummaging there. And looks like a bottle of car polish - just what it needs! Put it on using the pan scrubs! |

Did cross my mind All the Abandoned caravans he sold were full of junk, some more than this! Was a Caravan site who had a storage part and these were left unpaid for. After several letters to the owners and legal advise he was given authority to sell them off hence the cheap price.
I agree its got a certain classic look about it for a '70s towcar, I'll let you try to convince the wife it will go behind her Marina Coupe
The options I have with it are:
Clean it up and use it as long as its dry and solid. The sides are soild no movement under the windows or door frame, a quick look inside and the roof is intact, bit uneaven but not hanging out. Other than that I cant see much inside to tell how good/bad it is. Its very low on its suspension but hopefully it will lift when its emptied out.
Clean it up and sell it on if its good enough.
Strip it for spares if its rotten and then I have the A frame and other parts I need for the Safari. I took a chance it had Gas lights as it should, Fridge as it should and an Oven as it could but it seems it has none of them
DONT COME AFTER ME WITH PITCHFORKS! Im not going to flatten a good solid caravan! I will find as rotten one to get the bits I need if its too good to flatpack im in no rush for the A frame its on the 'to do' list _________________ Mick

I have managed to empty this out and have checked this over and its turned out to be quite wet and rotten in the top corner in the toilet and across the back
It has been well eaten by mice in the corners under the seats and the wardrobe, all the 12v wiring had been chewed so made a choice to use it for spares
I need the cooker, rear lights, A frame, tow hitch and leg winding screws for the other 2. The cupboard doors will mean I can sort the mish mash kitchen in the Safari as they are a very similar colour so changing them all wont look odd
Feel bad but you cant save them all, I would only end up collecting a whole selection of old caravans and not have the time to do them, this one will be recycled into repairing 2 other 60's caravans. For now the interior has been removed and is going to be used for storage of other caravan parts I have piled up at work so that will get the boss off my back
Sorry Graham but I tried _________________ Mick

Never mind Mike, always take solace inknowingthat the van will be used to help keep other goldenoldies in active use!
I had to scrap the 1979 one we used to had andwhile it was a sad day it was alsogood to know that many of the parts went to 5 other Thomsons, if I was fit, able and had the dosh I would love to open up a dedicated Salvage yard for pre 80's caravans, maybe one day when I win the lottery I can at least fund the idea ! lol _________________ http://www.thomson-caravans.co.uk
