I have just noticed a 1934 Winchester caravan advertised on eBay. I would advise members of the forum not to bid on this advertisement, which is not genuine, as this caravan is one of the Winchesters I own. We bought it off eBay in 2009 (when it was the cream colour shown - we've since painted it a pale blue colour) and are not planning to sell it! The person claiming to be the seller has no feedback and claims to be based in Scotland.

It would appear that the description placed on eBay at the time we bought the caravan has been copied and re-used as the wording and the photograph appear identical.

I'll be contacting eBay when I get home (I'm not able to at the minute as I'm still at work) but wanted to warn people now.

or send a deposit in advance at the very least? As usual it is a "new" seller with (0) feedback. And as new sellers have to offer Paypal as a payment method, I bet if asked regarding payment methods they'll reply saying "well ebay says I have to offer Paypal, so I can only accept that form of payment".

Someone did the exact same thing a few weeks after I sold a car several years ago on ebay. I complained, and sent a link to my original listing, and the offending listing was pulled by ebay shortly afterwards.

I won this item last december of an ebay user by the name of philip flocas, same advert, it was apparently located in Wick north Scotland he want me to do a moneygram which ment i put the cash in to a local postoffice and then he could go in to any postoffice in the uk, give an account number and collect the money....... and then arrange to have the caravan shipped down to me.

He would not give me a telephone number and when i contacted the address where he said the van was located it turned out to be a b+b in wick and they'd never herd of him or the caravan!!!

once more he would only contact me via email not through ebay,
when i contacted ebay , they said once the listing had finished he deleted his profile and was then untraceable...

thank god i investigated before sending any money ebay was very good in advising me not to send any money and not to contact him .

definate a scam do not bid!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for that. I've just arrived home from work and have contacted eBay as well. We'll see what happens next - it definitely feels a bit weird discovering that someone's put your caravan up for sale on your behalf!

Contacting eBay about this proved to be just about the most frustrating experience I've had for a long time. I was unable to speak to anyone directly and had to use eBay's 'online chat' enquiries service to message 'Marco B' first of all, who, having decided he couldn't deal with my concerns, then passed me on to the equally voiceless 'Joy A' in another department. After almost 25 minutes of messages flying back and to, she eventually said or rather typed, "I've forwarded your concerns on to another department . . . and they will be in touch". The clock ticks on and I'm still waiting . . .
