Thanks MONTBREHAIN. What a great and varied selection. I wonder how many of the utes based on British cars were marketed in the UK as utes?
I well remember the small Fords, Populars, Anglias and Prefects as well as Austins, Morris, Commer and Hillman and the Armstong Siddleys. They were all available as ex-factory utes here. The Armstrong was, to me, rather astounding, almost heresy like building a Roller Ute! _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

I had forgotten the Mayflower. Thanks Mo. I remember seeing a couple in the 1950's.
It is rather amazing the different vehicles that were sold here in 'ute' form. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

I hate to see VW's lowered!IMO it does nothing for them at all, except make them look ridiculous. But,I guess to each their own.
As for the Mayflower ute, what were they thinking?
The standard Mayflower is hardly a thing of beauty, but this concoction fell out of the ugly tree, and hit every branch on the way down!
My all time favourite ute has to be the 59 Ford.I always thought this the most graceful car of the era.A bit more restrained than the "eyebrow"59 Chev, yet more elegant than the Buick or what have you. |
