Birmingham Garage.Steve has been in touch again, photographing more old garages in his travels.This great little garage, still serving petrol as of 2006, was spotted in Wales. Steve found out the following information about it ... "Birmingham Garage is to be found as you leave the Welsh coastal town of Barmouth on the road to Dolgellau. The gentleman I spoke to (pictured) told me that it was started in the 1940s. Apparently two brothers ran a garage business in (you guessed it!) Birmingham that was doing so well that one of them decided to branch out on his own and set up in Barmouth (all quite amicably). The new business proved equally successful. As well as the usual things that garages do, Birmingham Garage today also rents out mountain bikes, and items of old motoring memorabilia are sometimes displayed on the forecourt. (I later noticed another Birmingham Garage at Llanrwst, which must surely be connected but which was impossible to photograph as it was dark!)." Thanks for the pics Steve, good stuff! |
