Homepage. | This page: A greeting from London Coastal Coaches for December 25th, 1948. |
London Coastal Coaches greetings card. This unused Christmas greetings card dates to 1948, and was designed and issued by London Coastal Coaches Ltd, a coach operator based in the heart of London. Established in 1925, the firm opened up new premises known ever since as Victoria Coach Station, a fine art-deco building designed by architects Wallis, Gilbert and Partners. It incorporates a bus station, railway station, and also an Underground station for good measure, and occupies a plot of just under three acres in all. |
The 1930s had seen a building up of local coach operations in the South East, but the advent of WW2 put paid to that, and it was only in 1947/48, ie around the time that this card was designed, that things began to get back to something-like normal. The building is now under the management of TfL (Transport for London). |
