Autumn 2004
As with so many, getting this one was less-than-essential given that I've more than enough
already. However, this rare Fordsons future
was looking jolly bleak, and a new home needed to be found for it. Knowing
these earlier Fordson-badged examples of the Ford E83W 10cwt commercial are getting thin on the ground, especially in the UK
where tinworm has claimed so many, it made sense (to me anyway) that this one should survive to fight another day.
The condition is fairly average, and, as with most of my E83W purchases, is semi-dismantled. Its also not very complete, missing the drivers door, grille, and having a pair of rough front wings. Fortunately owning other examples will
help when it comes to piecing this old girl together, although I am missing a few parts. The cab is rusty in places, and ok in others, but
is definitely saveable. The wooden dropside rear body is all there, albeit dismantled, so if nothing else will do as a template should another
one need building.
Not everyone in the house agreed about the necessity of acquiring this latest truck, but I'm working on her to see it's advantages!!
Spring 2005 update
Well I've done the (almost) unimagineable, and sold this little pickup truck, to a new owner down London way somewhere. With 2 additional E83Ws joining the garage in recent weeks, I thought I'd best get rid of one to maintain domestic harmony. The sale was a little protracted, but resolved itself finally, and a few more brownie points came my way, albeit briefly. The secondhand panels that I recently paid rather a lot for, despite needing work, were fitted to it prior to its sale (wings, grille, door etc), so hopefully the new owner can do something with this little truck.
