During my time
with LNB, the green 2 dr 122S, I'd always had half an eye open for acquiring spares to improve some of her less
beautiful features, not least the frilly front steel wings. As luck would have it, I
spotted my 5th Amazon, this time a 2 door 121, laid up and going nowhere, not far from where I lived.
Negotiations began in earnest, usually with the owner's "better half" as it
didn't take long to work out that she wore the trousers in that household. Needless to say
they succumbed eventually to my purchasing pleas, and for the 5th time I wheeled a rusty
old Volvo back home.
This 122 S was superficially OK, having had ££ thrown at it only 18
months or so earlier. However a good look underneath showed that the sills and unusually
the centre 'chassis' rails were in a very bad way, as were the inner wings and boot floor.
The big plus with this one was the new front wings that it had received only a year or so
earlier .. these were in mint condition, and were soon put in the shed, ready to go onto
LNB at some stage.
Yet again a massive pile of spares was accumulated and the old shell
carted away for scrap. These spares would go towards LNB's rebuild with a later owner.
I've now written a buyers guide for the 120 Volvo range, so if you are interested in buying one, why not have a read here: Volvo 120 Amazon Buying Advice.
