Bedford RLHZ Green Goddess.
These self-propelled fire pumps first appeared in the 1950s and were designed to take over from the wartime pumps previously used by the AFS (Auxiliary Fire Service) in WW2 and the NFS post-war. This was at the time of the Cold War and the Civil Defence and Auxiliary Fire Service operated the fleet of Green Goddess Bedford RLs. In recent years the Goddesses have seen service during fire brigade strikes in the 80s and 90s.
