Cars from the Standard Motor CompanyAll the popular Standards in a free screensaver Download this for free at oldclassiccar.co.uk There are many screensavers to choose from here at oldclassiccar (see the s/saver page for the others). All the photos used were taken by myself between 2001 and 2005. The side view of a beige 10 was the Standrive equipped saloon I had until late 2005. The download available below is specifically aimed at fans and owners of the Standard Motor Company vehicles. You have two choices - the full screensaver which contains all 20 Standard car photographs (file size 1.75Mb) or the 'lightweight' version that has 10 of these pictures (file size 1.05Mb). A variety of old Standards feature - 8s, 10s, and Vanguards predominate as you'd expect, but along with examples of Eight, Ten, Pennant, Phase 1 2 & 3 Vanguard, are rarities such as the green Avon tourer seen at the Malvern show. The other reason for there being a choice of 8 and 10 saloons is that I have owned examples of both, so I photographed similar models whenever I saw them at classic car events! The green & black circuit racers were at Goodwood, and the rally example was seen taking part in the Rally of the Tests in 2005. Instructions (PC version only) 1. Click on the screensaver you wish to download (see further down) 2. When prompted, save the .exe application file to your PC C: drive & make a note of where you put it 3. Using Windows Explorer, find the file you just downloaded 4. Double click on the file (standards.exe or standards_small.exe) to fire it up 5. A grey window shows on screen 6. You can preview the screensaver before installing, just click Run 7. Any keypress or mouse movement will cancel the screensaver 8. To install the screensaver, click the Install option in the grey window 9. You're done! the Standard cars screensaver is now your default 10. When you've had enough of it you can go back into your Display settings in MS Windows, and reset to another screensaver if you wish Pls note If you're not too confident with changing your PC settings in this way, it is probably best to get someone who knows more about this kind of thing to do it. It has been tested on my own PC (running Windows XP) and works ok with Internet Explorer 6.0 and Firefox 1.0 browsers. No guarantees, warranties or anything else that it'll work on every new or ancient PC out there! I can't take responsibility for anyone re-configuring their Windows settings by trying this - however it should be fine, but it does require a little knowledge by the user to install it. Download links Full 20 photo version 1.75 Mb Basic 10 photo version 1.05Mb The photographs used were taken by myself at various old-car shows, including Tatton Park, Malvern, Goodwood Revival meeting, and the commercial vehicle show at Gaydon in Worcs. The Atlas light commercial features in the campervans screensaver rather than this one. There is a fair bit of Standard material dotted around the rest of this site, for example these great old photos showing a Flying 8, that were found in a photo album picked up at a junk sale for £1... |
