Tin toy Volkswagen Beetle from Japan
More info on this tinplate Volkswagen
Right into the 1980s Japan were big in the market of tin-plate toy cars, and this VW Beetle is a classic example of a rare friction-drive tin car from the 1960s, produced by the KO company. It is larger than many such toys, measuring nearly 10 inches in length. The friction motor (mounted in the back naturally!) makes a distinctive noise and still works well. Many chrome parts are fitted to the bodyshell, echoing the style of the 60s 6v Beetle (after they changed from a split, then oval, rear window to a larger aperture). The interior is also nicely detailed with lithography, showing a LHD dashboard, seating, and rear parcel tray, on which the manufacturer's name is printed.
Measures: 250mm long.
Colour: red, with printed lithograph interior.
