More information on this toy Vanwall from Dinky toys
Vanwall was a team set up by industrialist Tony Vandervell, his aim being to bring Britain back to the top in Grand Prix racing. Two British drivers were chosen, Stirling Moss and former dentist Tony Brookes, and headed the Vanwall assault. This was in the mid/late 1950s and it wouldn't be long before the rear-engined revolution would turn the world of Grand Prix racing upside down forever. The Dinky Vanwall is one of the rarer 1950s diecast toys from this manufacturer, the example shown here being in very reasonable condition although missing its driver - no longer moulded into the car, as with earlier Dinky Toys. Crescent also did a version of the Vanwall GP car, photo here, and there were several plastic versions also produced, such as this friction drive Vanwall by ELM.
Measures: 95mm in length. Approximate value £15-£20
Colour: green, car no. 35, solid metal hubs, rubber tyres, separate driver
