HWM were a small independent team for whom Stirling Moss drove in his early career. HWM, or Hersham & Walton Motors, was co-owned by John Heath and George Abecassis (a driver himself), and fielded 3 of these 4 cylinder Formula 2 GP cars. Lance Macklin was team leader. Chief team mechanic was Alf Francis, a Polish ex-serviceman. It would be fair to say that reliability was not all it could have been, but Stirling Moss learnt many valuable lessons that would aid his rise to stardom, with drives for top teams such as Mercedes and Vanwall in later years.
