The Tri-van and By-Van LDV.

I have never seen mention of either the LDV Tri-Van or the By-Van. These motorcycle-based light delivery vans were available in the home counties at University Motors Ltd of Piccadilly in London. Further north enquiries could be directed to the Turner Manufacturing Co. Ltd in Wolverhampton. The Tri-Van was a 3 wheeler local delivery van and aimed at people needing a small local delivery machine. It was powered by a Turner Tiger 2 stroke engine and returned approximately 80 mpg. Price in primer was £150 and it could carry up to 3cwt of load. Also shown is the 1.5cwt By-Van complete with its frameless construction and storage area built into the overall bodywork. This cost £120 ex works. Note the tiny extending steadies in the photograph. I bet it would need to be very carefully loaded before setting off down the road. Retailers targeted included ice cream sellers and grocers. |
